Annual Report - St. Mary’s Choir

The choir has 10 adult singers, with occasional help from another tenor, and sings an anthem at Eucharist every Sunday.  We have also started a junior choir in the last year which stands at 9 members at present.  The youngsters have joined the main choir on three Sundays, to sing anthems they have worked hard on.  It is hoped that in the near future they will join in on a more permanent basis and in the meantime they are working hard for their first RSCM medal.

The choir sings an anthem at Eucharist every Sunday, and with our additional singers have been able to raise our sights a bit to include some of the more advanced pieces.

Choral evensong continues on the fourth Sunday whenever there is no other event taking place. Rev. Nigel Dawkins has taken over the running of evensong, and the last time this year we had more choir members AND congregation than usual.  Let’s hope this continues.

In the last year we had a successful Carol service at Christmas and two of our members regularly join St. John's choir for their choral evensong and team services whenever possible.

As always, we need new singers for the choir - we particularly need male singers (bass and tenor) - so please think about whether you could be part of that Ministry.  It is not necessary to be an expert musician, just to enjoy singing. It involves a choir practice for 90 minutes (maximum) on a Wednesday evening, one service every Sunday morning, evensong about 7 times a year and occasional extra services at major seasons.
